DB-Sim-Dist

Simulated distillation is the preferred method for characterizing boiling point distributions of petroleumfractions because it requires less labor than physical distillation. Simulated distillation determinesquantitative mass yield (% off) based on the boiling points for the components in feedstocks and finishedpetroleum-based materials. Using these results, producers can make informed decisions about processoptimization and efficiency. A standard simulated distillation run takes about 20 to 30min. However, with LTM technology, this time can be reduced to 2.5min, greatly increasing the analyst's productivity.ASTM recently released a new method, ASTM D7798-13, for fast simulated distillation, and so Agilentdeveloped the Fast Simulated Distillation Analyzer (G3445B#658) to address this new method. Note thatthis method is similar to ASTM D2887. The new method does not address high temperature simulateddistillation or extended simulated distillation. For ASTM D7798-13, Agilent uses the standard 0.25μm filmcolumn configuration (calibration mix C5-C44). For fast LTM analysis of ASTM D2887, with Agilent analyzerG3445B#653, the 0.5μm film column is used (calibration mix C5-C40).
